Duhok Asayish seizes more than 57 kilograms of heroin at Turkey crossing

SULAIMANI — The Duhok Asayish Directorate said on Wednesday (January 23) that they seized a total of 57.5 kilograms (127 pounds) of heroin at the Ibrahim Khalil border crossing with Turkey in two separate busts.

The Duhok Asayish said that they have seized 27.5 kilograms of heroin in their an operation last week and 30 kilograms in their another one on Wednesday.

“The investigation in continuing into the case and the suspects were arrested and sent to the court,” the Asayish said.

The Erbil Asayish on Tuesday also seized 130 kilos of heroin in another operation.

Although the authorities have warned that drug abuse is on the rise in the Kurdistan Region, it is mainly used as a transit point for drugs to travel to other countries.
