SULAIMANI — Former political prisoners protested in Kalar on Wednesday (January 22), demanding pieces of land and a pension.

President of the 14th of April Organization Rahman Khurshid told NRT Digital Media that the group's members had followed all regulations to sign up for a pension, but that the Kurdistan Regional Government had so far refused their applications.

The KRG provides pensions to many people who were victims of the former Ba'ath regime, including those who were incarcerated for political activities. The group said that there were more than 250 former political prisoners in Garmian and Kalar alone.

President of the Political Prisoners office in Garmian Hawre Mahmud said that they support every demand of the protesters and stand with them in fighting for their rightful demands.
