SULAIMANI —  The Council of Representatives' Legal Affairs Committee has released a new directive on Saturday (August 17) outlining the dismissal procedure for lawmakers who routinely fail to show up for debates and votes.

First Deputy Chair Mohammed al-Ghazi said that absent members would be removed and their seats would be filled according to the rules of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) and not by the political parties to which the absentees belong.

The parliamentary bylaws state that if a lawmaker is absent from three sessions that they will be dismissed from their position.
