Oil transports from Garmian to Erbil halted after controversial remarks from PUK leader

SULAIMANI – Tens of tankers transporting oil of Hasira and Chiasurgh oilfields to the refineries in Erbil were stopped at the checkpoints in Garmian administration on Wednesday (June 19), a security (Asayish) source affirmed.

The spokesperson for the Garmyan General Asayish Directorate Osman Abdulkarim told NRT Digital Media that the prevention was due to the license expiration of the oil transportation company.

NRT Digital Media quoted the spokesperson for Garmyan General Asayish Directorate Osman Abdulkarim as saying that the license of Black Ball, which transports oil from Garmian to Erbil, had expired and it could not transport oil unless it renewed its license

Member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) political bureau Mahmoud Sangawi lashed out at the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) for its policies toward his party. “If the KDP policy will be as of now, there would be no obstruction to establish our own administration and sell and consume our gas and oil.”

The outputs of oilfields in Garmian are estimated at 30,000 barrels per day (bpd). It is expected to be lifted to 50,000 bpd.
