SULAIMANI – Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani said that the Region is ready to help Baghdad and the UN investigators regarding the documentation into Islamic State (ISIS) crimes and search for mass graves in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

Barzani met with the Special Adviser and the Head of the United Nations Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by ISIS (UNITA)  Karim A. A. Khan on Wednesday (June 19).

Khan indicated that their works were for collecting evidences according to the international standards, as well as his team would continue to follow up on ISIS crimes in Iraq.

They also discussed that a considerable problem in Iraq was that there is no any law for war crimes and genocide apart from the existing federal Anti-Terrorism Law. They deemed cooperation between Erbil and Baghdad as important concerning the exhumation of the mass graves, apprehension and prosecuting the Islamic State militants.
