Turkish military shells village in Kurdistan Region

SULAIMANI — Turkish military shelled a village in the Kurdistan Region’s sub-district of Kani Masi on Tuesday (June 19), causing damages to the area.

NRT Digital Media Nihad Oramari said Turkish military artillery had bombarded Kesta village in Kani Masi sub-district for nearly two hours.

At least 15 shells hit around the village, he added. The shelling has caused damages to the agricultural fields in the area.

Turkey has recently increased the frequency of it bombardment on targets in the Kurdistan Region, which it says are part of an effort to combat the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

At least 120 villages have been evacuated in the Kurdistan Region’s sub-district of Sidakan due to Turkish airstrikes on the area, according to authorities.

Turkish airstrikes wounded three members of the Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan Region’s area of Bradost early on June 5.

On May 15, Turkish bombardment in the Region’s Barzani area killed a civilian.
