SULAIMANI — The Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) will abide by its agreement with the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), said Prime Minister designate Masrour Barzani.

Barzani headed a delegation met with PUK officials in Sulaimani on Monday (June 17).

“The PUK will abide by the agreement between us,” Barzani told reporters following the meeting, referring to the agreement between KDP and PUK on the formation of a new cabinet.

Meanwhile, PUK Politburo member Imad Ahmed said the party would participate in the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

“This is not the first time the PUK participated in the government cabinet … We will participate in this cabinet as well,” he added.

NRT Digital Media reporter Zhalla Mohammed said the PUK had not given names of the candidates for the ministerial positions to Barzani.

After the meeting, Barzani said at a news conference that their meeting with the Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party was positive and the party was promised with the position of the  KRG ministry of martyrs and Anfal affairs .

“We have not heard that the PUK has linked the issue with the formation of the government cabinet… the issue is not only for a party and all should find a solution to it,” Barzani said after he was asked regarding the issue of Kirkuk governorship.

“We have not heard that the PUK has linked the issue with the formation of the government cabinet… the issue is  not only for a party and all should find a solution to it.”

He is expected to visit the Change Movement (Gorran).

Beside  Barzani, the KDP delegation consisted of Dilshad Shahab, Hemin Hawrami, Omid Khoshnaw and Firsat Sofi.

On Sunday, he met KDP officials in Erbil to receive names of candidates for the ministerial positions in the KRG cabinet.

On Wednesday, Kurdistan Region’s President Nechirvan Barzani tasked the prime minister designate with forming a new KRG cabinet within 30 days.

The Kurdistan Parliament named Masrour Barzani as the new KRG Prime Minister on Tuesday. He received 87 votes from 97 lawmakers who were present during the parliamentary session.

259 days have passed over the Kurdistan Region parliamentary election, but the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet has not been formed so far due to strife  between the political parties, more notably between the KDP and PUK.
