BAGHDAD — At least 23 people were killed and another 45 wounded in a car bomb which struck a mainly Shia neighborhood in southern Baghdad, Reuters reported on Monday (March 20).

The blast hit a market in the district of Hay al-Amil in the southwest of the Iraqi capital, according to a report by the BBC.

Interior Ministry Spokesman Saad Maan had earlier told NRT Arabic the bombing killed four and wounded 13 in the district of Amil.

No group has yet to claim the explosion but the Islamic State has carried out similar attacks in the past, especially targeting Shia neighborhoods.

Emergency services transported the wounded to hospitals after the blast.
