SULAIMANI — Kurdish political prisoner Ramin Hossein Panahi is living in poor conditions in an Iranian jail, his mother Sharifa Zarini said.

Footage sent to NRT on Tuesday (August 21) shows Ramin’s mother saying that she has met her son Ramin in prison.

“Ramin lives in a dire condition and the Iranian government wants to execute him,” his mother said.

Ramin’s mother also called on the people to help them as they also live in a poor condition.

The Kurdish political prisoner spoke by phone with his family in the last few days saying “I was transferred to Rajaei Shahr prison for execution.”

“I was told that my execution would be carried out soon.”

His brother Amjad Hossein Panahi wrote on Twitter on August 14 that Ramin had been transferred from Sanandaj to  Rajaei Shahr prison in Karaj for execution.

Panahi was detained by Iran’s security forces last year. He was sentenced to death in January 2018 by an Iranian court on alleged charges of “taking up arms against the state.”

The ruling on his death sentence was postponed due to local and international reaction; protests have taken place all over the world against his death sentence.

UN Special Rapporteur on Extra-Judicial Executions, Agnes Callamard called on Iranian authorities not to carry out Ramin’s execution.

“I respectfully call on the Iranian authorities not to proceed with #RaminHosseinPanahi’s death sentence,” Callamard tweeted on Tuesday.
