KRG to sell cement for half market price for house construction: commerce ministry

SULAIMANI — The Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Ministry of Trade and Industry announced on Tuesday (February 25) that the ministry will sell cement for half the market price in order to encourage house construction.

Ministry Public Relations Director Sardar Qurbani said that the distribution of cement had stopped because of the financial crisis, but would resume now that the economy had improved.

Any citizen planning to build housing units in the Region's cities can benefit from the offer and purchase up to 50 tons of cement at the discounted price. People in rural areas can buy up to 25 tons.

According to Qurbani, the price of one ton of the KRG’s cement will only be 45,000 Iraqi dinars ($37.72).

The construction of housing units and buildings sharply decreased in the years since the financial crisis hit in 2014, but the government wants to encourage people to be begin building again.
