SULAIMANI — New Generation Movement President Shaswar Abdulwahid encouraged people in the Kurdistan Region to protest against the poor provision of public services at rallies on Saturday, saying that he will personally be in attendance.

“The guarantee is that I will be participating in the protests myself, me and my wife, and I think a lot of people will be attending,” Abdulwahid said during an interview with NRT on Friday (February 21)

Asked about allegations that he organized the protests because he is in debt to the government, Abdulwahid said that the question “is not worth answering.”

“I have said it several times, if they have the dignity, then they can take legal measures,” he added. “We will be going to the park and to the protests as normal people protesting against lack of service and to present our demands.”

Abdulwahid also responded to criticisms that the protests will lead to violence and property damage.

“What are there in the parks for us to violent about? There is nothing for the people to damage.”
