SULAIMANI – A delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) met with representatives of the New Generation Movement at the latter's office in Erbil on Thursday (September 19).

At a press conference following the meeting, KDP Political Bureau member Kakamin Najar said that the visit was to discuss forming a pan-Kurdish list to run in provincial elections in the areas covered by Article 140 of the 2005 Iraqi constitution, namely Kirkuk, Nineveh, and the other disputed areas.

“Our aim is to [avoid] the Kurdish vote being lost in those areas. There was a good understating between the parties about a united force,” Najar said.

Currently, such a list is in the process of being established to at least run candidates in Kirkuk. The parties will meet on Saturday for further discussions.

While the KDP has not formally announced whether it intends to join the list, it is expected to play a role and attend the meeting on Saturday.

The head of New Generation's external relations Arian Tawagozy said that the Movement has not yet decided whether to join the list, noting that the topic needed additional debate and it would announce its position at a later date.

“We will participate in Saturday’s meeting between the parties, but our participation does not mean we will join the united list,” Tawagozy added.
