SULAIMANI – New Iranian Consul-General in Sulaimani Mehdi Shushtari said on Monday (August 19) that his country was working to open four new border crossings with the Kurdistan Region, all of which would be located in Sulaimani governorate.

During a meeting with Mayor of Sulaimani Awat Muhammad, Shushtari said that his country hoped to continue to develop commercial ties with the Kurdistan Region and would work to facilitate the needs of tourists, pilgrims, and traders at border crossings.

Muhammad said that desire was mutual and that he hoped for additional measures to improve relations, according to an press release from his office.

The mayor also called on Iran to make sure that the food and goods that they export to the Kurdistan Region is of good quality and to encourage Iranian companies to invest in the Region.
