SULAIMANI – Spokesperson for the Change Movement (Gorran) Sorsh Haji said on Sunday (April 28) that the party has submitted its final decision regarding its participation in the new government to the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).

During a press conference following a meeting of the party’s National Assembly, Haji said that party officials had debated the best way for it to select its candidates for the positions that it has been allocated in the new cabinet.

“The candidates should commit to Gorran’s decisions and political agenda, so we have devised a way to ensure those candidates are chosen,” Haji said.

Initially, Gorran had been promised the position of vice president by the KDP as part of a political agreement between the two in February.

In subsequent negotiations with the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, that promise was watered down by the creation of a second vice presidency.

As a result, the KDP has reportedly had to offer a number of concessions to Gorran, which were also considered by the National Assembly during Sunday’s meeting.

Spokesperson for the Kurdistan Democratic Party Mahmoud Muhammad predicted last week that the new cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government will be formed before Eid al-Fitr.
