SULAIMANI — A
reduction in the amount of food given to inmates at the Sulaimani Adult Reform
Prison has led to prisoners staging a hunger strike, a source from the penitentiary
told NRT on Monday (May 16).
The food
provided for inmates has decreased by half this month due to the failure of the
authorities in Sulaimani governorate to provide payment to the company supplying
the prisoners’ meals, according the source.
Some
prisoners have begun fasting as a protest against the decrease, announcing they
will refuse food until they are provided with the previous amount of food and
drink.
