SULAIMANI— Hundreds
of people were hospitalized throughout the country due to a fresh wave of dust
storm hitting Iraq on Monday (May 16), according to the Iraqi Health Ministry.
The
ministry's spokesperson Saif al-Badr said that nearly 2,000 people were
hospitalized with breathing difficulties.
He added
that some of those admitted were in critical condition.
Badr
recommended staying indoors or wearing masks outdoors, especially for those
suffering from breathing conditions.
The Iraqi
News Agency said that schools and most government offices in several Iraqi
provinces were shut today due to the storm, including Baghdad, Kirkuk and
Diyala.
Meanwhile,
flights in some major Iraqi airports, including Baghdad Airport, were suspended.
