SULAIMANI— Hundreds of people were hospitalized throughout the country due to a fresh wave of dust storm hitting Iraq on Monday (May 16), according to the Iraqi Health Ministry.

The ministry's spokesperson Saif al-Badr said that nearly 2,000 people were hospitalized with breathing difficulties.

He added that some of those admitted were in critical condition.

Badr recommended staying indoors or wearing masks outdoors, especially for those suffering from breathing conditions.

The Iraqi News Agency said that schools and most government offices in several Iraqi provinces were shut today due to the storm, including Baghdad, Kirkuk and Diyala.

Meanwhile, flights in some major Iraqi airports, including Baghdad Airport, were suspended.
