Seven people arrested by Iran in Qandil, Sulaimani province

SULAIMANI— Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps' (IRGC) have arrested seven people and injured another in the border areas of Sulaimani province.

The head of Sangasar, Nahro Abdulla, told NRT that seven residents of the town were captured on Sunday (May 15) in Qandil mountain.

He said that the Iranian forces shot another person.

Abdulla did not explain why the men were detained or short.

He added the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) officials are in contact with the Iranian consulate in Erbil to free them.

NRT has learned that Iranian guards have recently been opening fire on tourists in the Pishdar district of Sulaimani province.

Last week, Iranian guards shot and severely injured one person in the Qandil area.

On Wednesday (May 10), Iran's Tasnim News Agency said that IRGC launched an artillery attacktargeting bases of the Iranian Kurdish opposition groups in Erbil province. No casualties were reported.

Qandil Mountains is a mountainous area of the Kurdistan Region near the Iraq-Iran border where the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has formed a base over recent years.

Iranian opposition parties, including the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan and the Democratic Party of Kurdistan, have bases in the Kurdistan Region.
