SULAIMANI —
Iraq’s State Organization for Marketing Oil (SOMO) said on Sunday (May 15) Iraq
imported 4.71 million tons of oil products worth $3.3 billion in 2021.
The country
imported 1.07 million tons of gasoil worth $657.44 million, 3.47 million tons
of gasoline worth $2.54 billion and 163,000 tons of kerosene worth $102.34
million, according to SOMO.
Although Iraq
is the second-largest producer in OPEC, the country’s industry and oil sector have
been adversely affected by repeated wars, poor administration and corruption,
causing the country to need to import oil production from outside sources.
