SULAIMANI — Koya’s traffic directorate
announced on Thursday that all roads in the city are shut down in order to
prevent accidents after snowfall and ice have made travel dangerous in the
city.
The directorate stated all roads are
closed both in and outside the city due to the risk of vehicles slipping in the
ice amid the winter weather conditions.
The announcement noted roads are closed
between the hours of 8pm to 8am, including the roads to Erbil and Dukan.
The directorate has asked residents to
stay in their homes until teams apply salt to the roads to reduce the risk of
accidents.
Heavy snowfall and severe winter
temperatures have occurred across the Kurdistan Region. Snowfall was reported
in Duhok, Sulaimani, Erbil, Halabja, Zakho, Soran and Raparin.
Winter weather conditions have
disrupted traffic and administrative work has been called off across the Region
with the exception of Sulaimani.
