SULAIMANI — Fighters from the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) have shot down a Turkish drone in the Kurdistan Region, the group's affiliated media reported.

PKK-affiliated media released footage showing a drone downed by the PKK fighters in the Metina area in Amedi, northeast of Duhok, on October 2.

Turkish warplanes and artillery intermittently shell villages in the Kurdistan Region, targeting suspected PKK positions in those areas.

The three-decade armed struggle by the PKK against the Turkish government flared up again in 2015 after the collapse of a two-year ceasefire and settlement process.

The PKK has waged insurgency against the Turkish state since 1984.

Hundreds have died since the PKK and the Turkish state resumed hostilities after the collapse of the ceasefire in July 2015.
