IHERC announces preliminary results of Kurdistan parliamentary election

SULAIMANI — The Independent High Elections and Referendum Commission (IHERC) has announced the preliminary results of the Kurdistan parliamentary election.

IHERC spokesman Shirwan Zrar said in a press conference that currently 85 percent of the votes have been counted.

IHERC did not specify how the eleven seats reserved for minority lists were going to be allocated. In the last parliament, there were five seats for Turkmen lists, five for Chaldean Syriac Assyrian lists, and one for an Armenian MP.

Additional results are expected in the coming days, as the commission completes its work.

There were numerous allegations for voter fraud during the election and the commission has promised to investigate them, although it was unclear if the results of those investigations would affect the vote or seat tallies.
