SULAIMANI – One person was killed and another was wounded on Wednesday evening (June 26) in a Turkish airstrike north east of Erbil.

The mayor of Choman district Ahmad Qadr told NRT Digital Media that warplanes bombed the Zinian area between Sidakan and Smelan sub-districts in the Rost Valley.

The deceased was named as Mansour Nafii Abdulla, who was a member of the police. His brother Pashew Nafii Abdulla was wounded.

“Turkey’s warplanes bombed areas near the villages,” Qadr added. NRT Digital Media reporter Abdo Rsotai said that the airstrike also targeted a civilian vehicle that was carrying the pair.

Turkey routinely carries out airstrikes against suspected Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) positions in the Kurdistan Region.

Over the last two months, Turkey has increased its military activities in the border areas, which has resulted in an increase in civilian casualties.
