SULAIMANI – A number of helicopters that took off from military bases in the Kurdistan Region bombarded areas of Rojava (Kurdish controlled areas in northern Syria), the Body of Defense and Self-protection in Jazira canton said.
Jazira canton’s Body of Defense and Self-protection released a statement on Tuesday (January 10) saying helicopters – suspected to be Turkish – shelled villages around Tel Alo in the city of Chlakho in Jazira canton on January 3.
“After the bombardment, the helicopters once again returned to the Kurdistan Region,” the statement read. “This act serves the enemies of Kurds and the Kurdistan Democratic Party is responsible for it.”
Jazira canton is under the control of the Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD) and was established on January 21, 2014. It borders with the Kurdistan Region from the west and Turkey from the north. It also borders with Iraq from the southwest.
